Updates
Hiberden does not update itself. There is no auto-update and no background version check, by design. The app never phones home, so it never quietly contacts a server to ask whether a newer build exists. An archive tool sits on top of data you intend to keep for years, and we think it should not change itself underneath you. Updating is something you do, deliberately, when you decide a new version is worth installing.
How you hear about new versions
New versions are announced by email to the mailing list. The address you gave when you downloaded Hiberden or registered a license is the one announcements go to. If you are not on the list, request a download at /download and you will be.
How to update
Updating is a manual download and reinstall:
- Download the new installer from /download.
- Run it. It installs over your existing copy.
The installer is the same signed, per-user installer used for a fresh install, so no admin rights are needed. You can confirm the signature under Properties > Digital Signatures on the downloaded file; the publisher is Agave Information Solutions, LLC. On a freshly released build, your browser or SmartScreen may show a new-publisher warning; the signature is the thing to check. See Installing on Windows for the full install walkthrough.
Installing over the top keeps everything that matters:
- Your license stays activated. You do not re-enter your key after an update.
- Your catalog is untouched. Projects, archives, copy records, and verification history are all still there when the new version starts.
Checking which version you have
The current version is shown in the About dialog. Open it from the info button in the app's top header, next to the Settings gear. The About dialog also shows where your catalog lives on disk.
What this article does not promise
There is no published release schedule, and this article makes no commitments about whether or when any future version will ship, or what it would include. If a new version ships, the mailing list is where you will hear about it.
